Wetheral Cottages
Great Salkeld, Penrith

A group of five charming sandstone cottages, each well-equipped and furnished with care to reflect its own character, the properties are maintained by the owners. Set within extensive gardens, the cottages are situated on the edge of an attractive Cumbrian village, near the River Eden and surrounded by rolling farmland. Our prices are fully inclusive with all cottages having colour television with DVD / CD player, full central heating and the largest (Garth) also has a dishwasher.

The small village of Great Salkeld is centred round the Pub and Norman Church. The village's long history is found not only in the church but also by the remains of a middleage castle and records of several droving routes. The pub, the Highland Drove, once the stopping place for the drovers, still offers good beer, excellent food and a local atmosphere. The drovers once watered their animals at the Dub just outside the village and now home to rare Great Crested Newts.

Great Salkeld lies in the Eden Valley which extends from the historic city of Carlisle in the North, through rolling fields and sandstone villages to the Howgill Fells and Mallerstang in the South. The East is flanked by the Northern Pennines whilst to the West the sublime natural beauty of the Northern Lakes. Eden waits to be discovered by those who seek country pursuits and tranquillity but further opportunities for outdoor activity or leisure can be found around

Ullswater Lake. Ullswater will provide the perfect setting for many fell walks, including the magnificent trek up to Helvellyn's summit via Striding Edge or the less strenuous paths such as that to Aira Force. To the west of Ullswater is the rest of the Lake District National Park which offers something for everyone. Within our area you are sure to find great opportunities for Walking, Cycling, Golf, Swimming, Sailing, Fishing or visiting the many attractions and historic sites of Cumbria.
